SAH steel bars -

customized solutions for the steel processing industry

We manufacture alloy and non-alloy round steel bars, as well as we are the European market leader in the production of bars with diameters of 12 to 14 mm. Tailoring to our customers’ needs and premium quality distinguish our rolled and bright steel products. Our product range of more than 2500 alloys of steel enables us to provide perfectly customized solutions for specific compositions.

Our production range covers standard structural steels, quenched and tempered steels, tool steels and special steels. The manufacturing range includes black, shot-blasted, peeled and  polished steel bars, as well as threaded bolts respectively chamfered, center holed and precision ground steel bars in different heat treatment conditions.

Fields of application

  • Automotive and commercial vehicle industry: In every European car are components made of SAH steel bars, from gears, piston rods and tempered and ground steering gear shafts to suspension components such as stabilizers, torsion bars and coil springs.
  • Chain producing industry: High quality round steel chains, hooks and shackles were made from SAH steel bars
  • Tool industry: SAH steel bars are highly appreciated in the manufacture of drills, chisels and socket wrenches.
  • Wind power projects: As gear shafts or as quenched tempered threaded bolts SAH steel bars serve in wind power plants.
  • Oil industry: From case hardening steels and steels for quenching and tempering sucker rods will be produced.
  • Agricultural technology: our round steel bars are used to fabricate highly stressed tools for tillage. Even ball and roller bearing steels as well as free-cutting steels were used in motor and gearbox components.

All these sectors put their trust in the quality of our steel products to ensure their own products safety and durability.

Surface quality classes

For the delivery of hot rolled bars applies the DIN EN ISO 9443 . Acc. to part 4.2 "designation" the requirements of the surface condition has to be mentioned in the order. Due to the technical limits of manufacturing and test methods the permissible part of incorrect products in the entire delivery unit must be fixed.

If the order as well as the applicable specification do not contain such a definition, SAH confirms “technical crack free”, if material is ordered with 100% crack testing.

If 100 % crack tested material is ordered, the incorrect part of a delivery (minimum 5) for rolled steel can amount a maximum of 1000 ppm.

For deliveries of bright steel the definitions of the EN 10277-1 applies. The surface quality classes are fixed there.

If the order as well as the applicable specification contains formulations in the sense of: "be free of cracks" or "no surface defects allowed", then SAH confirms surface quality class 4 according to EN 10277-1 "manufactured technically crack free".

If 100 % crack tested material is ordered, the incorrect part of a delivery (minimum 5)  for bright steel can amount a maximum of 500 ppm.
